A broom, a can and a rooster’s neck (2013)

Animation (from Latin: to give soul or bring to life) refers to a process that shows a sequence of two-dimensional or three-dimensional artworks in quick succession to create a moving picture, also known as motion picture. The illusion is created by the slowness of the eye (or so-called Beta movement).

Motion (physical term) is a change in position of an object with respect to time and its reference point. The description of the position as a function of time is kinematics, a part of classical mechanics. Basic concepts are position, velocity and acceleration that can be described with vectors two- or three dimensionally. In accordance with experience and observation Aristotle taught that the earthly things natural state was at rest. Movement came to an end, because bodies strove for rest.

Acceleration (physical term) is the rate at which the velocity of a body changes with time. The change can be both positive and negative or involve a change in direction. During deceleration, the acceleration is negative and thus reduces the amount of speed. During acceleration orthogonally to the direction, a curved path with constant speed and kinetic energy is obtained. A constant acceleration sideways creates the path of a circle. The SI unit for acceleration is m/s².
